Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement program is sponsored by College Board, a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing, inspiring, and connecting students to college. AP course curricula and exams are written by College Board and representative of freshman level college course knowledge and potentially allow them to earn college credit or placement in a higher level course at their attending college. 

Memorial's AP courses will challenge students and better prepare them for college. The philosophy of Advanced Placement at Memorial is open access to students who want to take an AP course. Students will be expected to participate in all course activities throughout the school year and the culminating exam in May.

Advanced Placement provides students the chance to tackle college-level work while they are still in high school and earn college credit and placement.

Each student will take an AP exam in each AP course in which they are enrolled. AP exams are taken in May of each school year.  Each exam costs $94.00 for students not on free and/or reduced lunch status and $10.00 for students on free and/or reduced lunch status.  Students not on free and/or reduced lunch status receive a discount if they are taking more than one exam.

Payment plans are available to all students and scholarships are available for qualifying students.  If your student is seeking a payment plan or scholarship, they must contact Dr. Grooms in the main office before the October 24^th deadline.

If a student makes a “3,” “4,” or “5” on his/her AP exam, he/she can receive college credit. For example, if a student makes a qualifying score on his/her AP exam in English Language & Composition, they will receive a college credit for Freshmen Composition I at most colleges and universities.
