Welcome to Memorial High School!

We have something for every student to get involved in at Memorial High School. We are large enough for diverse opportunities yet small enough for all students to be included. Our students build academic rigor through our multiple advanced placement course offerings and develop college and career readiness skills in our traditional classroom environments.

At Memorial, our students are valued, parents are welcomed, and the community is invested.

Early College High School

Students in the Early College High School program at Memorial High School can earn a college degree free of charge from Tulsa Community College while in high school.

The Early College High School program provides high school students with the support they need to succeed in college with extra tutoring, monthly events with your classmates, study sessions, access to college facilities, and more. Click here to learn more.

Tulsa Engineering Academy at Memorial

Nearly every device or process we use comes from advances in STEM. From wireless communication to automobile design to space flight, science and mathematics are at the core of virtually every technological development. Memorial’s magnet program provides a rigorous education to prepare students for life in the twenty-first century. Our mission is to help students take the next step - enrolling in a university-level STEM program - with confidence in the field they have chosen and with the skills that will ensure their success. Ms. Brown was born and raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and has served the Tulsa community for the past 11 years. Ms. Brown is a first generation high school and college graduate, which grounds her belief that knowledge is power in any realm of life and through education opportunities are born. She graduated from Northeastern State University and began her teaching career in 2009 at Hale High School, she then taught algebra at Memorial High School from 2010 to 2015. Ms. Brown spent the last four years serving the Westside community as the principal at Clinton Middle School and assistant principal at Webster Middle and High School. Ms. Brown returned to Memorial High School as assistant principal in 2019.

Mr. McCann was born and raised in Tulsa and the surrounding areas. Mr. McCann is a U.S. Army veteran with tours to Iraq and Afghanistan while serving on active duty. After the military, he graduated from Wichita State University in 2016. He began his teaching career in Tulsa Public Schools in 2018 at Webster High School where he faithfully served the Westside community until January of 2023. Mr. McCann came to Memorial High School in January 2023 as an assistant principal. Mr. McCann completed his master’s in teaching, learning and leadership with an option in special education in 2021 and began his journey towards completing a doctorate in 2024.

Our History

Memorial High School was named as a memorial to all Tulsa students and teachers who had fought in World War I, World War II and the Korean Conflict. In 1962, Memorial High School opened at 5840 S. Hudson Ave.

Key Contributions

The legacy of the veterans memorialized by the school’s name reflects the values of character, equity, and excellence which are reflected in the service of our community members serving in the military.

The building was named in honor of Tulsa students and teachers who were veterans of the World Wars and the Korean War. The veterans honored by the naming of the school are admired for their courage and sacrifice on behalf of the United States. It is possible that members of the community who are pacifists and who are opposed to dedicating memorials to war or conflict would object to naming a school in this way.

Relevant Historical Context

In 1962, when the school was named, John F. Kennedy was in the second year of his presidential term, John Glenn became the first American in space and tensions between the U.S. and Soviet Union lead to the Cuban Missile Crisis in October. The struggle for civil rights was intensifying, with civil rights groups launching voter registration campaigns and opponents rioting against desegregation. It was a time of great anxiety about American identity and the role of the U.S. in the world.
