Memorial High School has something for every student to get involved; we are large enough for diverse opportunities yet small enough for all students to be included. Students can build academic rigor through our multiple Advanced Placement course offerings or develop college and career readiness skills in our traditional classroom environments.
Student voice is a critical piece of Memorial High School's culture and climate and has led to the implementation of student-selected Activity Periods that range from cooking, yoga, anime, knitting, gardening, 3D Printing and even medieval fight club! We offer a variety of performing arts courses including instrumental, vocal, and visual arts classes. Memorial's JROTC and Student Council courses are model programs for students who wish to develop leadership and service skills.
In addition, our award-winning engineering magnet program offers challenging curriculum in engineering principles, design and development. Our robotics team, the "Circuit Chargers", compete for world titles every year and are among the most decorated robotics teams in the United States. At Memorial, our students are valued, parents are welcomed and the community is invested.
Engineering
Nearly every device or process we use comes from advances in STEM. From wireless communication to automobile design to space flight, science and mathematics are at the core of virtually every technological development. Memorial’s magnet program provides a rigorous education to prepare students for life in the twenty-first century. Our mission is to help students take the next step - enrolling in a university-level STEM program - with confidence in the field they have chosen and with the skills that will ensure their success.

It wasn’t only the world-class teachers, administrators, coaches and counselors that made my experience at Memorial special, it was the community ethos of hard work, perseverance and mental toughness that prepared me to face the challenges outside of the classroom! I am forever grateful for Memorial and the people that make it such a special place for laying the foundation of academic achievement and ultimately placing me on the path to success.Memorial High School alumnus

Memorial, Memorial, to you we will be true,
We'll fight, we'll fight, with all our might
For our red, white, and blue.

Our victories we proudly show
To those who may deny.

In memory of those who died
To keep their ideals strong...

History
Biography
Memorial High School was named as a memorial to all Tulsa students and teachers who had fought in World War I, World War II and the Korean Conflict. In 1962, Memorial High School opened at 5840 S. Hudson Ave.
Key Contributions
The legacy of the veterans memorialized by the school’s name reflects the values of character, equity, and excellence which are reflected in the service of our community members serving in the military.
The building was named in honor of Tulsa students and teachers who were veterans of the World Wars and the Korean War. The veterans honored by the naming of the school are admired for their courage and sacrifice on behalf of the United States. It is possible that members of the community who are pacifists and who are opposed to dedicating memorials to war or conflict would object to naming a school in this way.
Relevant Historical Context
In 1962, when the school was named, John F. Kennedy was in the second year of his presidential term, John Glenn became the first American in space and tensions between the U.S. and Soviet Union lead to the Cuban Missile Crisis in October. The struggle for civil rights was intensifying, with civil rights groups launching voter registration campaigns and opponents rioting against desegregation. It was a time of great anxiety about American identity and the role of the U.S. in the world.

Dr. Rebecca Grooms, Interim Principal
I started my career in education at Nimitz Middle School 15 years ago as a 6th grade language arts teacher. Over the next 5 years, I coached boys basketball, taught a student broadcast class, became the dean, and then finally the co-principal of Nimitz. During my time at Nimitz, I received my Master's degree from NSU and began to pursue my doctorate in school administration at OSU Tulsa. When Nimitz was closed, I became an assistant principal at Memorial High School. In 2016, I received my doctorate in school administration from OSU. This will be my 10th year at Memorial and second as principal. Memorial is like a family and I am so honored for the opportunity to lead this amazing group of teachers, students, and school community. Charger Strong!
Jim Vestal, Assistant Principal
Jim Vestal received his B.S. in special education from the University of Central Oklahoma and his M.S. in teaching, learning, and leadership from Oklahoma State University. From 2009 to 2011, he served as the special education administrator for Webster High School. He worked as assistant principal at East Central High School for four years before joining the leadership team at Memorial.
Michelle Brown, Assistant Principal

Ms. Brown spent the last four years serving the Westside community as the principal at Clinton Middle School and assistant principal at Webster Middle and High School. Ms. Brown returned to Memorial High School as assistant principal in 2019.
