TISCHLER, MARK

Mark Tischler

My name is Mark Tischler.  I have been teaching science at Memorial High School for the past 10years.
Currently I teach physical science, and astronomy.
Prior to coming to Memorial, I taught physical science and coached volleyball at Jenks High School.
I was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico and was raised, went to high school, and college in El Paso,
Texas receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of
Texas at El Paso.  I came to Tulsa in 1981 to work as a geologist with the United States
Geological Survey, and subsequently with the Internal Revenue Service.  It was while I was working
at the IRS that I volunteered as a boys basketball coach at my church, and at Edison Middle School.
It was this experience that led me to return to college and pursue a career as a teacher.  I went to
Lyndon State College in Vermont to work on the credits needed to be a teacher, and did my
student teaching at Danville Village School (actually lived on a Christmas tree farm while in Vermont
with my Siberian Husky, Laika).  My first teaching job was at Nathan Hale High School here in Tulsa in 1992.
