SCIENCE
Science
Every student will be required to take three lab-based units of science to meet graduation requirements for
either the College Prep/Work Ready or the Core Curriculum plan.  Biology I and a physical science (such as
Chemistry, Physics or Physical Science) are two basic requirements for the College Prep/Work Ready Curriculum.
Upon written approval of the parent or legal guardian of the student, in lieu of the College Prep/Work Ready
curriculum plan, a student may follow the Core Curriculum plan for high school graduation.  In this case the
student may enroll in Biology I and two other science courses at a level equal to or higher than Biology I.
The following sequences are among possibilities that will allow students to meet the graduation requirement for
Science:

       Sequence I  College Prep/Work Ready
9th Grade Physical Science
10th Grade Biology I
11th Grade Science Elective -- Chemistry highly recommended
12 Grade Science Elective (not required) -- Physics highly recommended

        Sequence II  College Prep/Work Ready
9th Grade Biology I
10th Grade Chemistry (a physical science)TPS Course of Study 2012-2013 – 3/8/2012 [136]
11th Grade Science Elective – Physics I is highly recommended.
12th Grade Science Elective - Environmental Science or Human Anatomy/Physiology

Advanced Placement Sequence College Prep/Work Ready
