The Arts are at the core of learning and of life. A balanced Fine Arts program will seek opportunities to ground
students in the Arts and enable them to appreciate their cultural and historical heritage. The Tulsa Public Schools
arts program of instruction augments the PASS requirement for teaching visual arts and music with instruction in
both dance and drama. Throughout the study of the elements and skills of each art form, students begin to
understand and develop an appreciation of their own cultures, cultures of others, and how time and place have
influenced artistic expression.
There are four sequences of vertical articulation in the arts. Students may have the flexibility to cross over
from any of these streams to another.
Sequences 1 & 2: For those merely fulfilling the graduation requirement for the arts.
Sequence 3: For those who enjoy the arts and wish to continue a serious study in the field.
Sequence 4: For those who are gifted in the arts and wish to establish a career direction and
foundation.
All students will be required to take one unit of music and one unit of visual art to satisfy graduation
requirements. These credits may be earned at any time during the high school tenure.
